Rows of bookshelves. Fixed tables. Quiet corners designed for individual reading. While these spaces have served generations well, today’s students need more. They need environments that invite creativity, collaboration, and hands-on exploration.</p>
<p><img decoding="async" class="alignnone wp-image-27468 size-medium_large" src="https://inventionlandeducation.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/HS-Media-Space-after-768x511.jpg" alt="High School Media Space after" width="768" height="511" srcset="https://inventionlandeducation.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/HS-Media-Space-after-768x511.jpg 768w, https://inventionlandeducation.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/HS-Media-Space-after-300x200.jpg 300w, https://inventionlandeducation.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/HS-Media-Space-after-1024x681.jpg 1024w, https://inventionlandeducation.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/HS-Media-Space-after-18x12.jpg 18w, https://inventionlandeducation.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/HS-Media-Space-after.jpg 1405w" sizes="(max-width: 768px) 100vw, 768px" />T<strong>hat is where Inventionland Education is making a meaningful impact.</strong></p>
<p><img decoding="async" class="alignright wp-image-21601" src="https://inventionlandeducation.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/icon-ideas.png" alt="Stimulating Curiosity" width="112" height="112" srcset="https://inventionlandeducation.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/icon-ideas.png 216w, https://inventionlandeducation.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/icon-ideas-150x150.png 150w" sizes="(max-width: 112px) 100vw, 112px" />During National Library Week, it is worth rethinking what a library can be. Not just a place to consume information, but a place to create it.</p>
<p>In many schools, the starting point looks like the old school spaces. They use traditional layouts with limited flexibility and minimal visual engagement. These environments often struggle to support modern teaching methods like project-based learning, STEM integration, and collaborative problem-solving.</p>
<p><strong>But the Inventionland Education transformation is dramatic.</strong></p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone wp-image-27470 size-medium_large" src="https://inventionlandeducation.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/Park-View-Elementary-School-after-768x511.jpg" alt="Park View Elementary Schoo after" width="768" height="511" srcset="https://inventionlandeducation.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/Park-View-Elementary-School-after-768x511.jpg 768w, https://inventionlandeducation.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/Park-View-Elementary-School-after-300x200.jpg 300w, https://inventionlandeducation.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/Park-View-Elementary-School-after-1024x681.jpg 1024w, https://inventionlandeducation.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/Park-View-Elementary-School-after-18x12.jpg 18w, https://inventionlandeducation.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/Park-View-Elementary-School-after.jpg 1405w" sizes="(max-width: 768px) 100vw, 768px" />In one example, a dated elementary library becomes a Storybook Forest Innovation Lab®. Instead of neutral walls and static furniture, students are surrounded by immersive, themed environments with tree structures, vibrant colors, and flexible seating. The space feels alive. It invites movement, imagination, and interaction.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone wp-image-26533 size-medium_large" src="https://inventionlandeducation.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/71F91ACB-8B21-4CEC-9550-9A9C4C050D70_1_105_c-768x576.jpeg" alt="" width="768" height="576" srcset="https://inventionlandeducation.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/71F91ACB-8B21-4CEC-9550-9A9C4C050D70_1_105_c-768x576.jpeg 768w, https://inventionlandeducation.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/71F91ACB-8B21-4CEC-9550-9A9C4C050D70_1_105_c-300x225.jpeg 300w, https://inventionlandeducation.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/71F91ACB-8B21-4CEC-9550-9A9C4C050D70_1_105_c-16x12.jpeg 16w, https://inventionlandeducation.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/71F91ACB-8B21-4CEC-9550-9A9C4C050D70_1_105_c.jpeg 1024w" sizes="(max-width: 768px) 100vw, 768px" />Another redesign converts an outdated library into a dynamic media and reading center. Bright lighting, collaborative tables, and engaging visuals replace rigid layouts. Students can read, create, present, and work in teams all within the same space.</p>
<p>At the middle and high school levels, the shift continues. Traditional study areas evolve into immersive innovation Labs, designed to drive engagement and real-world problem-solving. These spaces incorporate maker elements, adaptable workstations, and technology integration that supports both independent and group work.<img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone wp-image-27472 size-medium_large" src="https://inventionlandeducation.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/MIddle-School-Collaborative-after-768x511.jpg" alt="Middle School Collaborative Space after" width="768" height="511" srcset="https://inventionlandeducation.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/MIddle-School-Collaborative-after-768x511.jpg 768w, https://inventionlandeducation.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/MIddle-School-Collaborative-after-300x200.jpg 300w, https://inventionlandeducation.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/MIddle-School-Collaborative-after-1024x681.jpg 1024w, https://inventionlandeducation.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/MIddle-School-Collaborative-after-18x12.jpg 18w, https://inventionlandeducation.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/MIddle-School-Collaborative-after.jpg 1405w" sizes="(max-width: 768px) 100vw, 768px" /></p>
<p>One of the most impactful additions is the use of dry-erase light panels. These vertical workspaces turn walls into idea generators, allowing students to sketch, iterate, and collaborate in real time. Learning becomes visible.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone wp-image-24324 size-medium_large" style="font-size: 16px" src="https://inventionlandeducation.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2024/05/leechburghighres14-edit-768x538.jpg" alt="student writing on light panel" width="768" height="538" srcset="https://inventionlandeducation.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2024/05/leechburghighres14-edit-768x538.jpg 768w, https://inventionlandeducation.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2024/05/leechburghighres14-edit-300x210.jpg 300w, https://inventionlandeducation.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2024/05/leechburghighres14-edit-1024x717.jpg 1024w, https://inventionlandeducation.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2024/05/leechburghighres14-edit-1536x1076.jpg 1536w, https://inventionlandeducation.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2024/05/leechburghighres14-edit-18x12.jpg 18w, https://inventionlandeducation.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2024/05/leechburghighres14-edit.jpg 1764w" sizes="(max-width: 768px) 100vw, 768px" /><strong>The result is more than a visual upgrade. It is a cultural shift.</strong></p>
<p>Students are more engaged. Teachers have greater flexibility. Libraries evolve into central hubs for innovation, creativity, and interdisciplinary learning.</p>
<p>This National Library Week, the message is clear. Libraries are no longer just about what students read. They are about what students create.</p>

<p class="p1"><span class="s1">As part of the conference’s <b>pre-conference motor coach tour</b>, NABSE attendees had the opportunity to visit one of the region’s most inspiring examples of immersive learning design: the <b>new Innovation Center at Lincoln Elementary District 156</b> in Calumet City, Illinois. The Innovation Center was featured as a model for how thoughtfully designed, immersive environments can profoundly impact <b>deep STEAM learning</b> for students in grades K–8.</span></p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone wp-image-26530 size-medium_large" src="https://inventionlandeducation.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/7E2E6FDA-35AD-4DB4-9A2C-A4D125DC3DA2_1_105_c-768x576.jpeg" alt="" width="768" height="576" srcset="https://inventionlandeducation.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/7E2E6FDA-35AD-4DB4-9A2C-A4D125DC3DA2_1_105_c-768x576.jpeg 768w, https://inventionlandeducation.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/7E2E6FDA-35AD-4DB4-9A2C-A4D125DC3DA2_1_105_c-300x225.jpeg 300w, https://inventionlandeducation.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/7E2E6FDA-35AD-4DB4-9A2C-A4D125DC3DA2_1_105_c-16x12.jpeg 16w, https://inventionlandeducation.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/7E2E6FDA-35AD-4DB4-9A2C-A4D125DC3DA2_1_105_c.jpeg 1024w" sizes="(max-width: 768px) 100vw, 768px" /></p>
<p class="p1"><span class="s1">The tour resulted in a powerful <b>two-minute video</b> capturing educators from across the nation as they explored the Innovation Center firsthand, engaging with the space, asking questions, and envisioning how similar environments could transform learning in their own districts. The visit was led by <b>Dr. Anita Rice, Superintendent of Lincoln Elementary District 156</b>, whose leadership and vision were instrumental in bringing the Innovation Center to life.</span></p>
<p class="p1"><span class="s1"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="wp-image-26466 alignright" src="https://inventionlandeducation.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/Dr-Anita-Rice.jpg" alt="" width="261" height="235" srcset="https://inventionlandeducation.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/Dr-Anita-Rice.jpg 720w, https://inventionlandeducation.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/Dr-Anita-Rice-300x270.jpg 300w, https://inventionlandeducation.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/Dr-Anita-Rice-13x12.jpg 13w" sizes="(max-width: 261px) 100vw, 261px" />Under Dr. Rice’s guidance, the district reimagined and repurposed <b>old and outdated district office space</b>, transforming it into a vibrant Innovation Center that now serves as a hub for creativity, collaboration, and applied problem-solving. The space reflects Inventionland Education’s belief that environment matters, and that when students are immersed in inspiring, real-world learning settings, curiosity deepens and engagement soars.</span></p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone wp-image-26501 size-medium_large" src="https://inventionlandeducation.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/Lincoln-Elem-School-outside-768x473.jpg" alt="Lincoln Elementary School" width="768" height="473" srcset="https://inventionlandeducation.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/Lincoln-Elem-School-outside-768x473.jpg 768w, https://inventionlandeducation.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/Lincoln-Elem-School-outside-300x185.jpg 300w, https://inventionlandeducation.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/Lincoln-Elem-School-outside-1024x630.jpg 1024w, https://inventionlandeducation.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/Lincoln-Elem-School-outside-1536x945.jpg 1536w, https://inventionlandeducation.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/Lincoln-Elem-School-outside-18x12.jpg 18w, https://inventionlandeducation.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/Lincoln-Elem-School-outside.jpg 1900w" sizes="(max-width: 768px) 100vw, 768px" /></p>
<p class="p1"><span class="s1">The response from NABSE educators reinforced a core principle of Inventionland Education’s work nationwide: <b>immersive environments are not just visually compelling. They are catalysts for meaningful, future-ready learning</b>. We are proud to partner with forward-thinking districts like Lincoln Elementary District 156 and to support NABSE’s mission of empowering educators and students through innovation.</span></p>
