]]> Celebrating National Dog Month and Cat Day is the perfect time to highlight the incredible bond between humans and their pets. This bond is about companionship and innovation, as seen in the creative ideas generated by students participating in Inventionland Education’s Invention Contest.

Berry Bone and Pet Berry

These young minds often turn their love for animals into practical, inventive solutions that benefit both pets and their owners.

One standout invention from our middle school competition is the Berry Bone, which secured second place. This innovative product was created by Allison Konopka, Violet Ostrum, Mackenzie Perschke, Billy Pfaffle, and Ashley Prouty from Ehrman Crest Middle School, part of the Seneca Valley School District.

Grove City Middle School

The Berry Bone is a 3D-printed bone that cleverly attaches to a dog leash. Its unique functionality is that it opens to store treats and dog waste bags, making walks more convenient for dog owners.

Additionally, the team developed flavored dog treats to complement their leash attachment, adding an extra layer of innovation to their creation. This invention is a perfect example of how young students can combine creativity and practicality to improve the daily lives of pet owners.

Swag Wag Collar and App Features

Another remarkable invention in the high school division that took second place in 2023 is the Wag Swag. Created by Angela Petrarca from Altoona High School, Wag Swag is a dog fitness app. The app works in conjunction with a collar that tracks a dog’s physical activity, promoting a healthy lifestyle.

Wag Swag monitors overall fitness and educates dog owners on proper pet care. This invention highlights how technology can be harnessed to ensure our furry friends live long, healthy lives.

These are just two examples of how students are using their ingenuity to address real-world challenges faced by pet owners. Through Inventionland Education’s Invention Contest, young innovators are encouraged to explore their passions, and for many, that passion includes the well-being of animals.

As we honor National Dog Month and Cat Day, let’s celebrate not just the pets we love but also the bright minds who are working to make their lives better. Educators can take pride in the inspiration and innovation in igniting student achievement.
